Helios is a beautiful example of what can be achieved when quality is a top priority whilst building a
narrowboat. Designed from the baseplate up to be a self sufficient liveaboard Helios is equally at home
moored on a secluded stretch of the canal network as she is in a marina. Since Helios construction in 2006
by Big Fish Narrowboats and Steve Emery she has remained with her original owner who has taken great
pleasure in keeping her in tip top condition.
Entering from the stern you are welcomed into a warm and inviting boatmans cabin. Furnished with a fixed
double bed and an Epping stove it’s the perfect place for a quiet, cosy night moored at the side of the
Moving through Helios you next enter the engine room. This well kept and tidy engine space features a 1939
Lister CE2 as its centerpiece. The engine was completely overhauled when first installed in Helios in 2006
and coupled with a variable ratio hydraulic drive system has provided the current owner with many years of
trouble free cruising.
Continuing, the bathroom is on the port side and fitted out with a spacious shower, counter top glass
vanity basin and Thetford cassette toilet.
The galley and saloon merge to make for a large, open living space. With a centrally placed Aarrow solid
fuel burner creates a cosy and homely environment in which to relax. Forward of the saloon is a large
storage space under the tug deck and access to the water tank.
The galley is equipped with a stand alone gas cooker, Zanussi washing machine and an Inlander 12v fridge
freezer. In the galley is also the control panel for the 6.5kVA Fischer-Panda generator. This is fed by an
independent 10 gallon diesel tank and provides ample power for even the most demanding appliances.
